02-26-13 Report from NJ-ARP President Al Papp

Yesterday afternoon (Monday February 26th), I noticed that at Maplewood station there are temporary weekday M&E schedules on a laminated placard (3 panels per side - 6 total) that are now Scotch®-taped and duct taped, completely covering all of the existing Plexiglas panels that contain the October 2012 timetables.

"Weekdays - January 14, 2013 until further notice" is prominently printed on all 6 panels.

Obviously, NJ Transit's printer sized the temps to fit over the usual posters. They weren't there on Friday. Other stations may have new placards also; mine is a singular observation.

At the last NJ Transit Board Meeting, my statement stated that,  "...after almost two and one-half months post Sandy... why can't NJ Transit post temporary schedules at the stations, and have copies of schedules available at all stations with agents?"

Almost four months after Sandy, the schedules are now posted.

Moral of the story:  Unlike a "slash and burn" approach some advocates have used, a professional constructive criticism works more wonders.

THANK YOU New Jersey Transit for listening and acting!

–Albert L. Papp, President, NJ-ARP

This Update Posted Feb 28th.

Temporary Weekend/Holiday schedules are now posted on a laminated placard side by side with the  Weekday schedule both inside and outside the station.  (There are normally two Plexiglas holders for schedules - one for weekdays, one weekends/holidays.) There are four schedules vertically arranged on one panel.   Language is "Weekends/Holidays - Effective January 19, 2013 until further notice"

*Correction:* The Weekday schedule has four (not three) panels per side vertically arranged for a total of eight panels (not six).
